Cavanaugh Flight Museum
If you’re looking for a place to go for an air show, you should check out the Cavanaugh Flight Museum Addison TX. The museum is located on the airport grounds and offers great food and a ramp side view of aircraft operations. Whether you’re a fan of the cold war or just want to learn about aviation, the museum has something for you. Among the planes on display are the L-29 and L-39 and a Nanchang CJ-6.
The museum’s staff, volunteers, and aircraft all make the experience even better. It is also larger than Love Field Museum, so you can spend the whole day and not be bored! The museum also offers several hangers full of classic and airworthy warplanes. There are also meeting rooms and a gallery for art exhibits. And don’t miss out on the Great Texas Barbecue!
You can also learn about aircraft that served in the United States Air Force. Throughout the museum, you’ll learn about the 58th TFS, the 432nd TFW, and the 31st TFS. These planes were all part of the same unit. They were originally assigned to the USAF’s 35th TFW and the 56th TFW. This museum was built for these planes, so you’ll definitely be able to learn more about the history of our military.
The museum also features two World War II aircraft. The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, a storied plane from the era of World War II, is painted in the colors of the US Navy. The Vought A-7B Corsair II is another WWII airplane on display. This aircraft served with VA-25 on the USS Ranger and Ticonderoga. It was the last US military aircraft to see combat.
The Air Museum of the Rockies has a small collection of airplanes. A few iconic designs from the Thirties and Forties are exhibited, including the iconic Fairchild PT-19 Cornell. The museum also has two restored Stearman PT-17 Kaydet trainers. Another hangar is home to a restored Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, which was the backbone of US bombing capabilities during the World War II. You can even book a flight in these aircraft.
A fly-in is scheduled for Oct. 4-8. The museum hosts KCPT, WA, OR, KS, LA, and TX. There is also a Sea Fury project, but weather and a lack of volunteers have prevented a fly-out. Another exciting event to check out is the Swift National fly-in in Cleburne, TX. The museum hosts a variety of events, including fly-ins and a flight out in Swift aircraft.
